Veterans find connections through social and physical activities

Did you know that there are 3.5 million post-September 11 veterans across the country, and another 250,000 military personnel will be leaving active service this year to join them? These veterans often face isolation, lack of physical fitness, and a lack of purpose in a world that does not include the military.

The mission of Team Red, White & Blue is to enrich the lives of American Veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity. Using a national network of chapters, the RWB team organizes and participates in events designed to bring veterans together and engage in the communities where they live and work.

Whether it’s training, races, social events or community service projects, the members of the RWB team, also known as the Eagles, support each other through values and shared experiences; there is probably an RWB chapter near you.

Joining the RWB team is easy

Visit the RWB team home page to register. New members also receive a free Nike Team RWB t-shirt (shipping and handling fees). Team Red, White Blue is a nonprofit organization founded by veterans who strive to solve the loneliness epidemic through physical activity. The RWB team is the bridge connecting communities where veterans and civilians work together to gain a common understanding.

The RWB team takes the best of military service – the camaraderie and the physical challenges – and creates a new family of Eagles connected through physical activity.

“Staying active both physically and socially is essential for many veterans, especially those who have been injured, ill or injured,” said Geoff Hopkins, Tampa VAMC recreation chief and US Army veteran. “It is very important that veterans with ‘invisible wounds’ like PTSD engage in activities in the community, bring them out of their obscurity and get them to interact with others.”
